BJP ups ante on Shinde’s Hindu terror remark

Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s accusation that BJP and RSS run terror camps and indulge in Hindu terror acts has led to a major political logjam between Congress and BJP, warning to adversely affect the coming budget session of the Parliament.

‘Shinde is the leader of the house, his comments could seriously damage the government’s relationship with the opposition in the Parliament,’ said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad. He also added that Shinde will have to give an answer in the Parliament over his comments. The home minister made the accusations at the party’s just-concluded Chintir Shivir’ in Jaipur on Sunday.

Apart from making it clear that the coming session will not be an easy ride for UPA, it also demanded Shinde’s sacking immediately.

‘BJP will not tolerate this repeated insult of Hindu and saffron traditions of India,’ said Prasad. Ridiculing the home minister, he said, ‘Shinde is a lightweight home minister making lightweight remarks. But since he spoke in the PM’s presence, it has to be taken seriously,’ said Prasad.

Earlier in day, while addressing a rally organised in Lucknow for the merger of Kalyan Singh’s party into BJP, party president Nitin Gadkari criticised Shinde over his remarks. ‘It seems Sushil Kumar Shinde has lost his mental balance and therefore spoke about an organisation which has no links with terror,’ said Gadkari.

BJP also said Shinde’s comments will help Pakistan which has always been in denial mode on flow of terror from its territory. ‘The way politics is being played, the happiest today would be Pakistan which has been playing an anti-India campaign; they will say look at saffron Hindu terror, which your home minister is talking about,’ said Prasad.

The BJP leader also pointed out that despite having evidence that many Muslims are linked to terror activities in India, BJP has never termed terrorism as ‘Muslim terror’.

Prasad asked if Sonia Gandhi and UPA were joking with the feelings of Hindus. ‘Why this is happening in the government which is led by senior leader Sonia Gandhi? What is her reaction now? Does Congress approve of it?,’ asked Prasad.

BJP announced a nation-wide protest on 24 January against Shinde’s remarks.
