BJP to bring out vision document for minorities

With enough indications that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi could be the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP, the party is walking the extra mile to save its leader from attacks. The BJP, for the first time, will be coming out with a vision document for minorities, which will be released by the end of August.

In this, the BJP will try to address the insecurity faced by the minorities and how communal riots have affected them. Interestingly, the 2002 riots of Gujarat, which has been a major blot on Modi, will also find its place in the vision document. ‘There will be a mention of 2002 riots, but  there will be no attempt from our side to justify these riots,’ said BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abaas Naqvi, who is also the chairman  of the committee, which will bring out the vision document.

The BJP leader also added the Gujarat chief minister could be present when the party unveils its minority vision document.

The attempt by the party to move away from its hardline stance comes at a time when BJP president Rajnath Singh recently appealed to Muslims to ignore the Godhra riots.  ‘There may have been some incidents but can we not forget or ignore them now? Incidents have been happening and 13,000 communal riots took place in the country before 2002,’ said the BJP president in Jaipur.

The party has already held consultations with educational groups, scholars and experts from the minority field to chart out its document. Naqvi said that unlike the Congress party, which only talks about Haj subsidy, Waqkf board or providing reservation to the minorites, his party will talk about education and employment.
