Despite the Supreme Court on Friday dismissing a plea for making Finance Minister P Chidambaram a co-accused in the 2G scam case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) put up a brave front and alleged that the minister was still accountable 'politically and constitutionally' for the losses suffered in the 2G case. 'Chidambaram was a part of the decision-making process and he is constitutionally accountable, remains politically accountable and that is what we are seeking inside Parliament and will continue to seek in Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC),' said BJP's chief spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The BJP leader reiterated that the finance minister was part of the decision making that went against the advice of the finance ministry officials of auctioning the spectrum instead of the fixing the prices. 'It is well known that the base price of 2G in 2008 was determined at Rs 1,600-odd crores and in 2012, when the market conditions are adverse the base price of 2G Spectrum has been fixed at Rs 14,000 crore by a Group of Ministers headed by Chidambaram' said Prasad.
He added that the difference in the pricing showed the amount of loss caused to the government.
The BJP on Friday publicly maintained that the party won't step down its attack against the Prime Minister. While the whole week saw adjournments, party leaders said they would continue with their demands next week also. Earlier, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde met leader of opposition Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj.
However, the meeting remained inconclusive. In the meeting Shinde who was accompanied by Parliamentary affair minster Pawan Kumar Bansal requested her to allow the House to function, but this proved futile as Swaraj was adamant on her party's demand that the PM should resign.
Later, BJP leaders LK Advani, Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, held a meeting to decide the future course of action and it is learnt that party should will continue with its aggressive stand.
