‘BJP shying away from FDI debate’

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday strongly advocated FDI in multi brand retail and said that the policy would benefit the farmers of Himachal Pradesh and hinted that if party is voted to power, FDI will be imposed in the state.

‘Himachal Pradesh is mushroom capital of the country and state’s economy is largely dependent on horticulture. If FDI policy is enforced in the state, it would benefit the farmers and their produce could reach the international market,’ said Gandhi who was in the state for campaigning for party candidates.

‘BJP is shying away from debate or talks on FDI but is opposing to it which would enhance the capability of farmers,’ added Gandhi. It is to be noted that BJP govt of the state has opposed FDI and CM Prem Kumar Dhumal has declared that his party would not allow the policy to be implemented in the state.

Gandhi addressed three gatherings in one day at Kangra, Lahaul, Spiti and Solan. He also targeted BJP on corruption saying that it only raises the hue and cry but actually it is the Congress who has acted on it.   ‘Despite in government since 2004, our ministers involved in corrupt practices have landed in jail and we gave the biggest tool in the form of RTI to common man to fight against corruption,’ said Gandhi.

He said that BJP have shielded the corrupt and opposed all the moves of Congress which could strengthen the common man. ‘Land acquisition bill is being blocked at standing committee of parliament, which would have safeguarded the interest of poor people, the country to take all the stake holders forward on the path of development. No country can progress without its people and for that youth and women will have to come forward in politics,’ said Gandh.

HPCC president Virbhadra Singh said that he has been under attack from BJP as they fear loss in the election.
