BJP seeks power subsidy from Jaitley

A cautious Delhi BJP has approached Union finance minister Arun Jaitley with a demand of Rs 800 crore electricity subsidy to provide relief to lower class people in the national capital.

‘We have requested with Union Finance Minister to make a budgetary provision in the budget of Delhi to provide direct relief to 32 lakh power consumers in Delhi,’said Satish Upadhayay, Delhi BJP chief. ‘We are against using plan fund to provide subsidy as it hinders investment in infrastructure development. Congress’s policy to use plan fund for subsidy and AAP’s failure to make budgetary provision for subsidy is the main reason behind electricity woes in Delhi,’ argued Upadhayay. He however told that the increase in nominal but BJP stands committed to its promise to reduce the power tariff by 30 percent.

‘The subsidy will be for the period till the Rs 200 crore allocated by the center to revamp electricity infrastructure completes,’ added Upadhayay. He further added that the BJP is of the view that once the revamp of electricity infrastructure is completed the consumers would get automatic relief. Meanwhile, AAP workers protested in the city to oppose power hike.

‘The people of Delhi are already facing the heat of price rise and recent hike and BJP’s central government is just adding to their woes,’ said Nagender Sharma, AAP spokesperson. The party workers protested in several parts of the city by forming human chains and organising march with poster.
