BJP running away from fresh election, alleges AAP

The party also disapproved of BJP’s bid to form a government in the national Capital saying that the latter does not have a majority in the Delhi Assembly. AAP also alleged that BJP is running away from fresh election.

The Congress also slammed LG Najeeb Jung for the delay in taking a decision on government formation in Delhi, accusing him of giving enough time to BJP to poach MLAs from other parties.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal said: ‘BJP is not confident of winning assembly election, which is why they are delaying it. The party is playing dirty politics over the issue. If BJP had the magic numbers, it would have formed the government in the national Capital. ‘BJP knows it does not have the numbers which is why it running away from fresh elections,’ he added.

Kejriwal also accused Delhi LG Najeeb Jung of favouring one particular party instead of protecting the Constitution. ‘It is very sad that instead of protecting the Constitution, the LG is working on the direction of one political party,’ said Kejriwal.

Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said that the BJP took long to decide about government formation because ‘they could obviously not garner up the required numbers’.

‘If elections come, Congress will fight the election and will fight it well. I am sure,’ she said.

Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said that Congress is not going to support any party to form a government and has ‘nothing to do with the BJP’.

The Centre on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that President Pranab Mukherjee has given his consent to Delhi LG’s proposal to invite BJP to form the government in the national capital while the apex court rapped the LG for the five-month delay in taking a decision. The apex court said that in a democracy, President’s Rule cannot go on forever and questioned why the authorities failed to act expeditiously.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu also said that it will hear the petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seeking dissolution of the House. It also noted that the LG should have taken the decision at the earliest.

On the other hand, while addressing a press conference, the Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said that BJP is against vote bank politics. ‘If LG invites us, we will give an appropriate reply at the right time,’ he said.

It is very evident that the party is holding their cards close to their chest and waiting for the appropriate time.

Sources said party president Amit Shah and senior leaders along with Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari were in favour of the party forming a government though Union minister Venkaiah Naidu was not really in its favour.
