BJP-ruled MCDs are dens of corruption, says AAP

Launching a scathing attack on BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the civic bodies have become dens of corruption and the ruling party leaders have been fooling the people of the national Capital. Senior AAP leaders, in a press conference on Wednesday, claimed that despite having funds, the Corporations have failed to deliver projects related with development.

The construction of the Rani Jhansi flyover, that began 17 years ago, is still nowhere near completion. In 2008, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North MCD), the civil body that was supervising the project, estimated the cost of the flyover to be Rs 177 crore. However, at present, the estimated cost stands at Rs 725 crore approximately. The project which was supposed to be completed by 2010 still seems to be a distant dream.

Addressing the media, senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey  blamed the BJP for their growing corruption related to the Rani Jhansi flyover where its cost has increased manifold in these few years.

Similar other projects that are under the MCD are still undone due to severe corruption. Addressing the press meet, Pandey cited examples like those of three hospitals that are still struggling to take shape as a result of corruption.

He alleged that only one private company has been awarded the contract for cleaning garbage at Kasturba Hospital, Rajan Babu TB Hospital and Hindu Rao Hospital. No tender procedures were followed for awarding the contract, he added.

He further mentioned that the company, which has been working at Kasturba Hospital to clear garbage within its premises, gets paid around Rs 8 lakh every month for the job. This means, around Rs 70 crore has already been paid to the company till date, asserted Pandey. Hindu Rao Hospital pays around Rs 10-10.25 lakh every month to the company.

The AAP believes that crores have been taken by the BJP from the owner of that particular private company as bribe. Reiterating their anti corruption stand, he recalled slapping  of Rs 700 crore fine on five private hospitals for denying free treatment to poor patients, Pandey called it as the AAP’s pro-people governance model. Lashing out at the MCD, he said the BJP believes in pro-corrupt governance model.
