Earlier, the BJP has decided not to release a manifesto and decided to come out with a ‘vision document’. It was done because a section of senior leaders were ‘indecisive’ on whether to include the demand for full statehood or not.
Though the ‘vision document’ went on highlighting 270 points covering all paradigms of public concern, it went on a wrong foot after it mentioned to protect ‘North Eastern immigrants’ with a slew of measures that include setting up of special cells in all police stations.
Many raised objection over the word ‘immigrants’ used in page number 14 in the vision document. Congress was the first to react over the word and its senior leader Ajay Maken said: “People from the North East are citizens, not immigrants. The BJP must apologise.”
The ‘vision document’ was released by party’s Chief Ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi where other leaders including Union minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and state leader Satish Upadhyay were present. While reading out the ‘vision document’, Bedi said: “I promise to transform Delhi into a world class city with better roads, transport and the environment. Also, for the first time, if come to power, we will set up a Department of Public Security.” The other salient points of the document are: Police accountability, maximum measurability, fiscal prudence, zero tolerance to corruption, focus on youth affairs, electricity and water, cleanliness, education and skill development, environment, 100 per cent transparency, unimpeachable integrity.
“Women’s security is a major challenge for us. I promise a complete alignment with the central government for deriving maximum benefits in all key elements. Taxi services to be monitored and scrutinized. There will be constant monitoring of government projects and progress,” she said.
She promised to make every department ‘corruption free’ including the police and said she would hold a monthly ‘Dil ki Baat’ on the lines of the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ on radio. There are 35 areas which will have an impact on ‘every single person in Delhi.’
