A day after blocking traffic on the DND flyway by BJP workers, the Noida Police have booked a local MLA along with 300 others on Thursday. The police action was initiated after a complaint was lodged by the DND authority.
On Wednesday, nearly one thousand party workers had protested for four hours on the carriageway. The protesters also forced open the toll barriers, allowing commuters a free ride. The protest had resulted in massive jam across the region.
According to the police, an FIR was registered against Noida BJP MLA Vimla Batham, her son Nitin Narain, BJP district president Vijendra Naagar, Sanjay Bali, representative of the Union Minister Mahesh Sharma along with other local leaders. The police have booked them under Sections 147, 148, 342, 427 and 504 of the IPC.
Gopal Verma, general manager of Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NBTCL), in his complaint, has said that hundreds of BJP workers not only allowed free movement of vehicles, but also vandalised all toll booths. They instilled fear in such a manner that the toll staffs were forced to leave the plaza. Their protest not only led to traffic snarls but also caused huge loss of revenue.
Police said that they are investigating the matter and action will be taken accordingly. “As it’s a political matter, we are taking steps carefully. We have asked for CCTV footages of the plaza so we could identify the hooligans. Once investigations are over, we will initiate penal action against the guilty persons,” said a senior police official.
It may be noted that the commuters, using the DND flyway, had a free ride on Wednesday, because the BJP workers, who protested at the plaza for four hours, forced open the toll booths on both sides of the carriageway.
