The BJP kick-started its election campaign for the upcoming state assembly elections on Tuesday evening at the Talkotora stadium. National leaders of the party warned city leadership not to engage in infighting and work together to oust the Congress government in Delhi.
‘The city leaders must maintain unity and work together to get rid of the inefficient and corrupt Congress government from Delhi,’ said BJP national president Rajnath Singh. The campaign was launched on the birthday of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Earlier in the day, party workers organised a ‘havan’ to celebrate his birthday, where they prayed for his long life and victory in the upcoming general elections, slated to be held next year. ‘Delhi is the heart of India and if you win the heart you can win the rest easily,’ added Singh.
He urged party workers to devote their entire energy and time for the party till the elections. ‘We have been out of power for the past 14 years, which is akin to Vanvas (residing in forest) by Lord Ram. This time we must come in power in Delhi as the duration of Vanvas has been completed,’ he said. The BJP national president also flayed the Congress governments, in Delhi and Centre, for their failure to control price rise, wide spread corruption and misrule.
Concerns regarding infighting and factions within the party were also expressed by former party national president and Delhi election in-charge, Nitin Gadkari. He said, ‘Party workers and city leaders must stop infighting and work together to put up a united front. Only deserving candidates will be given tickets.’
Gadkari claimed the BJP would get two-thirds majority in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel lashed out at the Sheila Dikshit government for ‘misrule of 15 years’ and urged party workers to throw away the ‘inefficient’ government in the interest of Delhiites. He also promised reduction in power tariff by over 30 per cent, better civic amenities and better education facilities if the BJP is voted to power.
