BJP keeps Sena, NCP guessing

Despite being attacked by the rival parties on BJP’s stand on separate state of Vidarbha, Modi wave actually worked in Maharashtra helping the party to secure 122 seats out of 288. The results revealed that the vote shares of Mahayuti parties went to the BJP as there was a marginal drop in the vote share of other parties such as Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena among others.

On Monday, though Shiv Sena has claimed that it has not taken the final decision on lending support to a BJP-led government in Maharashtra, but well-placed source said talks are underway.

Interestingly, prime minister Narendra Modi is hosted a dinner on Monday where all his ministers are invited including Shiv Sena’s lone cabinet minister Anant Geete.

Party spokesperson Sanjay Raut said at a press conference that the party is yet to take a decision on whether to join the BJP in forming government in the state. ‘We will announce our decision at the right time,’ Raut added.

Raut statement came after reports of both the parties had agreed to form a coalition government in Maharashtra came today.

Sources said, senior state leaders of the both parties had a series met and there are speculations that Shiv Sena agreed to lend support to the BJP government.

Sources said details of the government formation are being worked out and a formal announcement could be made soon.

Raut, meanwhile, said that party chief Uddhav Thackeray met all elected Shiv Sena MLAs at the Sena Bhawan this afternoon and expressed his gratitude towards the people of Maharashtra who voted for the Shiv Sena.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and senior BJP leader JP Nadda postponed their Mumbai visit till tomorrow after prime minister Narendra Modi hosted dinner for all his ministers at 7 RCR. The duo was scheduled to visit Mumbai today to help choose the leader of the BJP legislature party in Maharashtra.

BJP president Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari met in Maharashtra to discuss the situation. The NCP too, which won 41 seats, on Sunday has decided to unilaterally lend outside support to a BJP government in the state.

Following NCP’s offer, the Shiv Sena had on Sunday taken the initiative to put the pre-poll acrimony behind and look towards the future with the BJP. There are reports that Uddhav spoke to Amit Shah over phone.
