BJP, JD(U) spar over Opposition status in Bihar assembly

With Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi continuing as unattached member, Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) faction has demanded from the Goverfor the Opposition status in the Bihar assembly. The move, which may help in dethroning the Manjhi government, has been opposed by Bihar unit of BJP, who is currently enjoying the opposition status in the House. The JD(U) legislature party leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has asked the Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary to recognise his party as the main opposition in the House. He has also asked him to make seating arrangements accordingly in the House. It’s worth mentioning that 12 of the 111 JD(U) MLAs have sided with Manjhi.

The JD(U) has also asked which party is supporting Manjhi government. On the issue, leader of Opposition in assembly Nand Kishore Yadav said, “Despite being declared unattached member by JD(U), Manjhi remains with the JD(U) flock and hence the plea by Nitish Kumar’s party to recognise them as opposition is not legitimate.”
