It seems all is not over yet in the 25-year-old marriage between the BJP and Shiv Sena after reports of newly-conceptualised Margadharshak Mandal (guiding group) of the ruling party pitching in to find ways for post-poll arrangements in Maharashtra. With both parties realising their mistake in snapping pre-poll ties, they are now keen to keep the option open for a post-poll understanding. Maharashtra goes to polls on 15 October.
On Wednesday, Uddhav left political leaders and experts perplexed by saying he wants to have a discussion with Modi before taking any decision on withdrawing his minister Anant Geete from the union cabinet. This was followed with a statement from LK Advani on Thursday that he would like to see the alliance on.
Insiders say Sena has conveyed it could reconsider its position if somebody other than Amit Shah came forward for talks and indicated their preference for Modi, Rajnath Singh or Advani, all members of Margadharshak Mandal, to take the lead. Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday too hinted that BJP could consider joining hands again with Sena. Giving credence to the development, BJP general secretary Muralidhar Rao on Thursday said it was impossible to have an alliance with the NCP. ‘We are going to contest the assembly election on the grounds of prevailing misrule and corruption of the Congress-NCP government in the state and it is nearly impossible to have an alliance with NCP there,’ he said.
