The declarations made by the India Against Corruption (IAC) leader Arvind Kejriwal about Robert Vadra’s land deals with the realty major DLF has set cat among the pigeons, especially within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After questions were raised why the BJP did not address the matter as aggressively as it raised the Coalgate and the 2G issues, the satraps in the saffron party have girded up for the next round of fratricidal fight.
Soon after Kejriwal released the second round of documents on Tuesday relating to Vadra’s deal with DLF, making a case of quid pro quo, a right-wing ideologue known to be close to the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, first tweeted, ‘Well done Kejriwal! He has demonstrated that where there is sincerity in fighting corruption the “proof” comes flooding in.’ This innocuous tweet was soon followed by a more significant post, which said, ‘BJP top brass owes explanation why it prevented Jaitley & Yashwant Sinha from pursuing Vadra case in 2011. As Mao said, “Bombard the HQ”.’
First the context of ‘Bombard the HQ’. Political observers feel that maybe an attempt has been made to equate Jaitley with Chairman Mao, who in the name of a cultural revolution in 1966 exhorted the student Red Guards to rebel against the Chinese Communist Party. ‘If Jaitley was Mao, then is Kejriwal’s IAC his Red Guard?’ asked a senior BJP leader, who added, ‘Incidentally Jaitley is not known to sup with Yashwant Sinha’
According to BJP sources, soon after the reports first appeared in a section of the media in March 2011, a detailed deliberation on the matter was held by the leadership on how to address the matter.
