BJP demands flats for 2.7 lakh Rajiv housing scheme applicants

The leader of opposition in Delhi assembly, V K Malhotra,  has alleged that Delhi government is fooling the poor in the name of Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojana and demanded that the government provide flats to over 2.7 lakh applicants who had applied for flats in 2008.

‘Recently, the chief minister has announced a three-member committee for the allotment of houses under Rajiv Ratan housing project, but at the time of the launch, she had promised houses to every applicant,’ said Malhotra. ‘It’s is another rue to confuse the people of Delhi,’ added Malhotra.

He further stated that at the time of the launch of the scheme in 2008, she had promised to construct over 60,000 houses under the project and a total of 2,77,518 applications were submitted for that.

‘Besides, the Union urban development minister Kamalnath had announced two lakh houses every year, which never materialised,’ alleged Malhotra.

The government, he alleged, has so far constructed only 14,844 flats for which allotment letters have been issued to only 646 JJ colony residents.

‘The government, during the past six years demolished thousands of JJ colonies for infrastructural projects during Commonwealth Games without allotting alternative site. So far only 266 JJ colony residents could get alternate site,’ alleged Malhotra.
