BJP, Cong meet L-G Jung over ban on e-rickshaws

The issue of e-rickshaw has taken a political twist as city presidents of both BJP and Congress led a delegation to meet Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung with a demand to save livelihood of over 70,000 e-rickshaw drivers.
‘LG assured us that the the operation of e-rickshaws will not be stopped and the stand of the Delhi government will be presented through senior advocates in the High Court, if needed the government will move the Supreme Court also,’ said Satish Upadhayay, Delhi BJP chief.
Leading the delegation of BJP leader Upadhayay demanded the LG to ask for three months time from Delhi High Court to put necessory legal frame works to regulate e-rickshaws in the city.
‘In the meantime, Delhi Police should be allowed to regulate the operation of e-rickshaws in Delhi as per section 28 of Delhi Police Act,’ said Upadhayay.
He also demanded the LG to issue necessary guidelines to concerned officers so that they do not face harassment. The delegation also submitted a memorandum to LG in this regard.
Leading the Congress, Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh demanded the LG to promulgate an ordinance to save the livelihood of e-rickshaw drivers.
