Bizman tries to thwart robbery attempt, suffers bullet injury

The incident took place at around 12.15 pm on Monday near the Corporation Bank at Jyoti Nagar. The victim, identified as Rohit, came out of the bank after withdrawing a cash of Rs 31 lakh. In the meantime, four armed men, their faces covered by helmets approached him on two separate motorbikes and tried to snatch the cash bag. Rohit raised an alarm, hearing which, one Manish Goyal, who was standing nearby came out running and fought to avert the robbery bid.

In the fear of being caught, the armed assailants opened three rounds of fire. One of the bullets hit Manish, who is a resident of the Gokulpuri area near Sabzi Mandi. He owns a confectionary shop and a mobile recharge shop in Gokulpuri. Before escaping from the spot, the robbers managed to take the cash bag away. A call to the police control room was made at 12:30 pm by Rohit, after which police officials were rushed to the spot. Manish was taken to the nearby GTB hospital. He is presently out of danger.

“We are trying to assess the CCTV footages of the area and a manhunt is on to nab the criminals,” said Rajendra Singh Sagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East).

A case under appropriate sections has been registered in the Jyoti Nagar police station, against the accused and further investigation is underway.
