Birth rate declines from 25.8 in 2000 to 21.6 in 2012: Report

The Union Heath Ministry, led by JP Nadda, might have a reason to smile as the latest report of the National Health Profile (NHP)-2015 has projected that the estimated birth rate has declined from 25.8 in 2000 to 21.6 in 2012, while the death rate has also come down from 8.5 to 7.0 per 1,000 population.
According to the latest data, Assam has topped in the list of maternal mortality ratio with 300 per one lakh live births, while Kerala is at the bottom with 61 per one lakh live births. Infant mortality rate, a crucial health indicator of the country, has also come down by nearly 50 per cent during 1990 to 2012, with the present level being 42 per 1000 live births.
The malaria death rate in the country was 0.09 deaths per lakh population in 2000 which has come down to 0.04 deaths per lakh population in 2012. <g data-gr-id="17">Prevalence</g> rate of TB in India has come down from 465 per one lakh population in 1990 to 249 in 2011 per one lakh population.
While releasing the 11the edition of National Health Profile (NHP)-2015 prepared by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI), Nadda said, “The data in the profile is an important source for understanding the goals, and India’s strengths and weaknesses in the health sector, adding that <g data-gr-id="16">well compiled</g> data enables policy-makers to make evidence-based policies and aids effective implementation of various schemes.”
