Biometric attendance system to be installed in all govt offices: Law Min

The order is in line with inculcating strict discipline in all government offices. Late comers and those found not completing their hours of duty will be penalised. The penalty for such officials has not yet been decided upon.

Law minister Somnath Bharti has issued orders to put these machines on the entry gates of every department. ‘The orders have been issued regarding this. It will start from my office,’ Bharti said.

Presently, Delhi government’s offices especially in hospitals, schools, social welfare departments, officials are usually absent.

Asked about the expenses and infrastructure required to install the biometric attendance system across all departments, he said, ‘Everything has been done by the previous government but the Congress-led government never ordered the installation of these systems. Reasons behind the non-installation of these systems are best known to them,’ he said.

According to senior source in the Delhi government, they have been using biometric machines in Food and Civil Supplies department to make new ration cards. He said the biometric machines will help the ministers in improving the work culture in their respective departments.
