East Delhi MP Maheish Girri tabled a personal bill in the Lok Sabha on Friday. Titled ‘Trans-gender Persons Bill’, it seeks to end discrimination against trans-genders and provide equal right and dignity in society. “The bill has been designed to give incentive to the community with equal opportunity to grow by enacting a board with a representation of minimum two transgenic people,” he said. “It’s sad that despite the court order, there is no legislation till date that governs the rights and welfare of the largely discriminated community anywhere in the world. Via this Bill, we intend to address the problems faced by the marginalized community by constituting a board that ensures welfare of these people and promotes awareness about their rights and safeguards available to them for their protection,” added Girri.
