Bike-borne robbers flee with Rs 35,000

Two bike-borne assailants robbed a bookie at gunpoint in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar area early Friday morning. The robbers snatched the victim's gold chain and Rs 35,000 in cash in front of police officers, alleged the victim.

The incident took place at around 5.45 am. Ashok alias Balli, a bookie, resident of Gandhi Nagar, was returning home with Pawan, his nephew, when the assailants intercepted him and pointed a revolver towards them. They snatched Balli’s gold chain and Rs 35,000 and fled.

Balli, who himself is a registered history sheeter at the Gandhi Nagar police station, has alleged that he was robbed in the presence of two police personnel.

According to a senior police officer, 'He has alleged that the assailants pointed their gun at the police personnel, who got scared and made no effort to nab the assailants. We are verifying his allegations. Surprisingly, the assailants took away only one gold chain of Balli though he was wearing four more chains. Also, Balli had Rs 73,000 more inside his pocket, which the assailants did not touch. The sequence of incident is also being verified.'
