A 12-year-old boy suffered minor injuries when three bike-borne assailants opened fire when a scuffle broke out between his elder brother and the three men near his home at Rani Garden in East Delhi’s Geeta Colony area on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. Senior police officers said that the minor boy identified as Ashqat Ali is out of danger.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 1.15 am when three men on motorcycles called out Mukhtiyar, brother of the injured minor boy.
An investigating officer said: “These three had personal rivalry with Mukhtiyar. They started arguing. It turned violent when one of them whipped out a pistol and started firing. Four rounds were fired during which one of the bullets hit 12-year-old Ashqat on his thighs.”
Police said that Ashqat was rushed by his family to a nearby hospital where he is currently said to be stable.
According to the police, a case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the Geeta Colony police station against unknown persons. Sources said that one of the three is a bad character and was recently released from Tihar Jail. Meanwhile, search operations are on to nab the accused at the earliest, said police.
