Bike-borne assailants steal Rs 1 cr from businessman at central Delhi

A Mumbai-based businessman and his employee, carrying diamond jewellery worth over Rs 1 crore, were robbed by three unidentified armed bike-borne assailants on Wednesday evening at Deshbandhu Gupta road, near the Liberty showroom in central Delhi. The accused are still at large.
According to police, the victim, identified as Satish Kumar Shah (55), a diamond jeweler in Mumbai was accompanied by his employee, identified as Anand, in his car. Meanwhile, at around 7.30 pm, three men on a motorcycle intercepted them on a service lane.
‘The road was deserted and when Shah’s car had entered the road. The accused intercepted the car and one of them shattered the right side-view mirror, where Shah was carrying two bags with cash and diamond jewellery. They snatched the bag at gun point and escaped from the spot’, said Alok Kumar, DCP (central Delhi).
Police said Shah had come to Delhi for a business deal and was returning after a meeting with another businessman from Pritampura and Vaishali in north-west Delhi. He was staying at a hotel in Paharganj for the last couple of days in central Delhi. According to police no CCTV cameras were installed at the showroom and the road.
‘We are investigating the case from all angles. Interrogation of hotel staff and Shah’s driver are taking place in order to identify the accused. We have detained some local goons to trace some leads into the matter. However no arrests have been made in the case’, added Kumar.
In a separate incident, three bike-borne assailants stole Rs 29 lakhs at gun point from a sales man on Thursday. The incident took place in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area. The local police along with a team of special staff reached the spot and are probing the case.
