Bihar’s big guns fail to make it to Team Modi

As the cabinet of 15th prime minister is very compact, some of the important faces from the state have failed to make a mark into the new government. The top leaders who were expected to get a position in the Modi cabinet were former state BJP unit president CP Thakur, Bhola Singh, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Shahnawaz Hussain and Shatrughan Sinha.

The reasons of ‘rejection’ of ministerial berth to these leaders vary from person to person. As per political experts, in case of CP Thakur, the age factor has played the spoilsport. The former cabinet minister in the Vajpayee cabinet in 2000, Thakur is 82 years old and a prominent Bhumihar face of the state. Another face of the same clan who has been not inducted into the Modi cabinet is Bhola Singh, the member of lower house from Begusarai. Singh is also 75-year-old which might have been the reason to select Manoj Sinha, parliamentarian from Gazipur to represent Bhumihar clan at the centre.

In case of Rajiv Pratap Rudy, the reason of refusal may be his close relations with rebel party leader Jaswant Singh. Former state BJP chief and RSS man Radha Mohan Singh is the Rajput face of Bihar in the Modi cabinet.

Shatrughan Sinha, who was a cabinet minister in the Vajpayee government, failed to get a ministerial berth as he has been quite vocal against Modi. The close links with LK Advani proved to be bane for the Bihari babu.

The only Muslim face of BJP Shahnawaz Hussain too failed to get ministerial berth. Hussain’s chances, who lost to RJD nominee in Bhagalpur constituency, was very rife of getting the ministerial berth.
