Bihar11th Plan growth best of major states

Bihar achieved the highest economic growth rate among major states during the 11th Five Year Plan (April 2007-March 2012). According to a Planning Commission report on state finances, the growth of nominal gross state domestic product (GSDP) in Bihar, which has had low growth and underdevelopment right since independence, was 21.9 per cent in the 11th plan.

Only Sikkim (31.6%) and Goa (22.9 %), which are much smaller in size, recorded higher growth. The worst performers were Jharkhand (9.2%) followed by Puducherry, Nagaland and Manipur (all below 11 per cent). Some of the other states’ growth rates were Haryana (19.5%) and Rajasthan (18%).
