'SC 'never asked' to delete names of Indian citizens from NRC'
Kolkata: Calling it 'unfortunate', Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that BJP and RSS are spreading "misleading statements" against the Supreme Court as the Apex Court had "never asked" to delete names of Indian citizens from Assam's National Register of Citizens.
In a tweet on Sunday, the Chief Minister has stated: "It is unfortunate that the BJP and RSS are making and spreading misleading statements against the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court never asked to delete names of #Indian citizens from the #NRC list."
This comes at the time when the BJP leaders are claiming that the move in connection with Assam's NRC was following the direction of the Supreme Court.
Banerjee, who has been raising her voice against the "anti-people" activities of BJP, on Sunday again launched a scathing attack at the party in power at the Centre, for its "actions" of "destructiveness and political vendetta".
Banerjee, who had stated that exclusion of 40 lakh names was the outcome of the BJP's "divide and rule" policy to isolate people, further stated in her tweet: "The list of #Indian citizens left out comprise Bengalis, Assamese, Rajasthanis, Marwaris, Biharis, Gorkhas, UPites, Punjabis and citizens from the 4 southern states."
