Over 84L get Covid vaccine in a day

New Delhi: In a landmark achievement, over 84 lakh doses of vaccine have been administered on the first day of the new phase of COVID-19 vaccination that commenced on Monday. On the 157th day of the nationwide vaccination, a total of 84,07,664 doses of vaccine were administered to eligible beneficiaries. India's cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage was recorded at 28,36,73,654.
Among all the states/UTs, Madhya Pradesh has vaccinated highest 15,42,632 doses in a single day followed by Karnataka that has administered 10,67,734 doses on Monday. Uttar Pradesh has vaccinated 6,74,546 doses, while Gujarat administered 5,02,173 doses followed by Haryana (4,72,659 doses), Bihar (4,70,352 doses), Rajasthan (4,30,439 doses), Maharashtra (3,78,945 doses), Assam (3,30,707 doses), Tamil Nadu (3,28,321 doses), West Bengal (3,17,991 doses), Odisha (2,80,106 doses), Kerala (2,61,201 doses), etc.
Himachal Pradesh has administered 98,169 doses, while Jharkhand vaccinated 82,708 doses and Andhra Pradesh has vaccinated 47,328 doses in a single day.
Notably, the present phase of vaccination was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 7. "The PM had given a clarion call to all citizens to vaccinate themselves and encourage the others who are eligible to take the jab. Today's achievement showcases the trust placed by the people of the country on the government's fight against the pandemic," the health ministry said in its statement.
It also said that more than 2.98 crore Covid vaccine doses are still available with states and union territories.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Today's record-breaking vaccination numbers are gladdening. The vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight COVID-19. Congratulations to those who got vaccinated and kudos to all the front-line warriors working hard to ensure so many citizens got the vaccine. Well done India!".
The previous single-day record was of over 48 lakh doses on April 1. In June so far, India saw an average vaccination of over 31 lakh per day.
Earlier, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday, India logged 53,256 new Coronavirus infections, the lowest in 88 days, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,99,35,221, while the active cases further reduced to 7,02,887.
The death toll climbed to 3,88,135 with 1,422 fresh fatalities, the lowest in 65 days.
The active cases now comprise 2.35 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.36 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed
A net decline of 26,356 cases has been recorded in the COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
As many as 13,88,699 tests were conducted on Sunday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 39,24,07,782.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 3.83 per cent. It has been less than 5 per cent for 14 consecutive days, the ministry said, adding the weekly positivity rate has declined to 3.32 per cent.
Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 39th consecutive day. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,88,44,199, while the case fatality rate has increased to 1.30 per cent, the data stated.
