Rajdhani passengers robbed of belongings worth `12 lakh

New Delhi: The notion that passengers and their belongings are safe in Rajdhani was proved wrong by a gang who robbed passengers of August Kranti Rajdhani Express coming from Mumbai to New Delhi. The gang escaped with the belongings to the tune of Rs 12 lakh while passengers were asleep in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh. When the train reached Delhi's Nizamuddin on Wednesday, the passengers deboarded the train and lodged an FIR with the GRP.
The investigation brought to light that six bogies were affected where around a dozen passengers complained that while they slept their valuables were stolen. The cops are also investigating if the passengers were drugged before being robbed. "Since the crime did not happen in our jurisdiction we have registered a zero FIR on the complaint of the passengers. We have registered a case under Section 380 of IPC," said DCP Railways, Parwaiz Ahmed. The theft in a train like Rajdhani has led to a sense of insecurity as the train is considered to be one of the safest. The August Kranti Rajdhani is also one of the most sought after trains on the Mumbai- Delhi route.
The incident came to notice when one of the woman passengers got up near Ratlam and found her purse missing. After she raised an alarm, more passengers got up only to find their valuables missing. Cops suspect a gang which targets passengers on the moving train could be behind the incident. The insider role is also being robbed.
