Police say clues hint at CBSE Maths paper leak in Jharkhand

New Delhi: In a new development to the CBSE paper leak case which may bring another embarrassment to the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, which is firm on its stand that the Class X Maths paper was leaked only in Delhi and Haryana, Jharkhand Police has claimed that it has substantial pieces of evidence of leak of the Maths paper in the eastern state. The claims of Jharkhand Police may 'compel' the HRD Ministry to revisit its previous decision of conducting a re-examination (if required) of the Class 10 Maths paper only in Delhi-NCR and Haryana.
Notably, School Education Secretary Anil Swarup had on Friday categorically said that the final decision to hold re-test of Class 10 Maths paper would be decided in next 15 days after considering further 'serious findings' in the matter. However, Swarup had made it clear that if necessitated, the re-examination would be held in the month of July and it would be restricted to students of Delhi and Haryana.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been formed by Chatra police to probe the CSBE paper leak issue. According to sources, cops in Jharkhand are busy in preparing documents related to CBSE paper leak for sending it to their counterparts in Patna by Sunday.
"We are busy in finalising the relevant documents that have to be sent to Patna police at earliest as paper was first leaked in Patna and then after it was 'supplied' to Chatra and other parts of the state," the sources said, adding that special team would reach Patna in coming days and seek the support of local police in thorough investigation of the matter.
While talking to Millennium Post, Patna SSP Manu Maharaj said, "We are ready to provide every support that to be sought by Jharkhand team to solve the CBSE paper leak case. The Patna police is also keeping a vigil on the matter."
However, Jharkhand Police has arrested three people and nine minors in Chatra. According to Chatra's Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Variar, the SIT has gathered some vital information making it clear that modus operandi of the paper leak was similar to Delhi and Haryana as Class 10 Maths paper was leaked through WhatsApp.
"Three people have been arrested from a coaching centre called 'Study Vision' which reportedly leaked the question papers. Charges have been filed against them under the relevant section of the IPC," Variar said. Among the three arrested, one is a teacher and other two — Pankaj Singh and Satish Pandey — are directors of the academy, Variar said, adding that in total 12 people have been arrested in the CBSE paper leak matter till now.
"Maths paper was provided to a minor student in Chatra by Patna-based two students through WhatsApp," the Chatra SP said. Earlier, the School Education Secretary had on Friday said that the idea behind the decision was to not affect the schedule of about 16 lakh students who appeared for Class 10 examination.
