Kolkata: “No crime is bigger than tricking women into writing false complaints without their knowledge or consent. What happened in Sandeshkhali is an insult to all women,” said Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Minister Mamata on Saturday slamming the BJP over the alleged conspiracy hatched by the saffron party in connection with the Sandeshkhali incident.

Banerjee was addressing an election rally in Hooghly’s Saptagram in support of her party’s Hooghly Lok Sabha candidate Rachana Banerjee. “People have seen how the BJP orchestrated the Sandeshkhali conspiracy. Modi Babu would instigate the issue. For a woman, her dignity matters more than the money,” she said.

Taking a dig at Governor C V Ananda Bose over the alleged molestation case, Banerjee on Saturday demanded an explanation from Bose as to why he should not step down.

She also asserted that she would not step inside the Raj Bhavan till Bose remains the Governor of Bengal. “The Governor says ‘didigiri’ (high-handedness) will not be tolerated. But I say Mr Governor, your ‘dadagiri’ will not work anymore…Bose must explain why he should not resign after such allegations were levelled against him,” said Banerjee.

Banerjee said that she would never go to Raj Bhawan as it would be a sin to sit next to him. “I am not going to the Raj Bhavan till he is the Governor...I prefer to meet him on the streets,” she said without directly referring to CV Ananda Bose.

Referring to the airing of the CCTV footage of May 2, the day the temporary employee in his office accused the governor of sexual assault at the Raj Bhavan, Banerjee said that she had got a copy of the original footage and the edited version. “I have kept it with myself. I have also got the edited copy. All are yet to be revealed. Today I received yet another pen drive. What authority do you have to harass a woman?” Mamata Banerjee questioned. “The Governor had released an edited video. I saw the entire footage and its contents are shocking. I have got another video. Your conduct is shameful,” Banerjee said, training guns on the Governor.

In reference to the Governor’s statement on high-handedness, Banerjee further said: “What is my fault? You are saying that you will not tolerate high-handedness. Just tell us when you will resign.”

Banerjee also claimed that this Lok Sabha election will bring downfall of the Modi government at the Centre. BJP had started smelling an election disaster since the end of the third phase of polls on May 7, she claimed. Continued on P4
