Metro ridership rises as DMRC prepares for full resumption from Sep 12
New Delhi: The Delhi Metro, which started running trains along its Blue and Pink Lines as part of the graded resumption of services for Stage 1, said on Monday it received a total passenger footfall of around 53,400, an increase of 35,800 from 17,600 people seen on Tuesday.
On the third day since resuming operations, 26,900 people travelled on the Yellow Line, 22,600 boarded the Blue Line and 3,900 took the Pink Line, DMRC said in a press note.
However, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director Mangu Singh said they are currently not looking at revenues or ridership. "The aim was to allow people to move and go to the workplace while adhering to all COVID-19 safety guidelines. This was done to contribute to economic revival in a way," Singh said.
In addition to the 48.8 km Yellow Line connecting Huda City Centre in neighbouring Gurugram and Samaypur Badli, the 57 km Blue Line connecting Dwarka Sector 21 and Noida Electronic City/Vaishali and 59 km Pink Line connecting Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar opened its doors to the public with nine interchangeable stations in service. From Thursday (today), services will further be extended with the 34.4 km Red Line connecting Rithala and Shaheed Sthal station, 29.64 km Green Line connecting Kirti Nagar/Inderlok and Brig. Hoshiar Singh station and 43.28 km Violet Line connecting Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh resuming operations.
From September 11, the Magenta and Grey lines will resume and on September 12, the 23 km Airport Express Line from New Delhi to Dwarka Sector 21 will also be thrown open with a full working period of 6 am to 11 pm.
