Mamata invited to Dubai world biz summit in April

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been invited to the eighth business meet to be held in Dubai from April 9 to 11. It may be mentioned that the invitation from the Department of Foreign Trade and Industries of the United Arab Emirates has already reached the state Secretariat, Nabanna, and Bengal has been urged to be a participant state for the same.
The Business Summit in Dubai is among the best in the world and delegations from countries all around the world participate. "It is indeed a great honour for us. The Chief Minister's serious efforts to woo investors have led to this," a senior official of the state Industry department said.
However, it has not been decided yet whether Banerjee will be able to attend the Summit or not. It may be mentioned that the Bengal government is pitching for $4 billion (around Rs 25,000 crore) Saudi investment in oil refinery, downstream and port projects.
In September last year, senior representatives of Saudi Aramco, the Saudi state-owned oil company, had met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna, when the Bengal coast had figured as a potential site for one of the two refineries that the company was planning to set up in India.
"It has been their practice to set up their own infrastructure when they start operations anywhere in the world. Hence, they want their own port. Though they haven't taken a final call yet, we have an opportunity to pitch for Tajpur," an official said.
It may be mentioned that the Saudi Arabian company, based in Dhahran, has both the world's second-largest proven crude oil reserves and second largest daily oil production.
Saudi national oil & gas company Aramco has plans of opening two refineries in the country — one on the west coast and the other on the east. A delegation from Saudi Arabia had also participated in the Bengal Global Business Summit that was recently held in New Town.
