ED registers PMLA case against Azam Khan

On allegation of land grabbing

New Delhi: The ED has registered a money-laundering case against Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha MP Azam Khan, based on multiple FIRs registered against him by local police on allegations of land-grabbing.

The Enforcement Directorate had last week asked for details of 28 FIRs, where allegations of land-grabbing have been levelled against the Rampur parliamentarian by farmers in the area, a source said.

Taking cognizance of these cases, the financial probe agency has registered an Enforcement Case Information Report, the equivalent of an FIR, under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The MP was recently put on a land mafia list by the UP government.

Some of these local police cases have been registered on complaints from farmers who claimed that Khan had grabbed their land for purposes related to the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University.

Khan's MLA son, Abdullah Azam was also detained by police recently for trying to obstruct them during a raid at the university.

Khan had recently created a controversy in parliament for sexist remarks to BJP MP Rama Devi, while she was in the Chair. He later apologised in the house.
