New Delhi: With the Delhi Metro network set to be augmented 100 km, Delhiites will soon be able to travel in one of the world's most extended underground and elevated stretches, spanning across the city and adjoining areas. The Kalkaji Mandir-Janakpuri West corridor of the Magenta Line is set to be operational soon. Also on the anvil next year, the Pink Line will act as a 'Ring Corridor' connecting most parts of Delhi. Meanwhile, a small stretch of the corridor, between Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 and Trilokpuri, however, will not be a part of the line due to land-related issues and will, therefore, remain a missing link.
DMRC is also set for its third foray into Haryana after Gurgaon and Faridabad by extending the Green Line to Bahadurgarh. DMRC will also extend the Violet Line from Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad to Ballabhgarh next year. The extension of Blue Line from Noida City Centre to Noida Electronic City will not only bring Delhi Metro closer to many sectors of Noida but also to areas in Ghaziabad such as Indirapuram.
Teamwork is the root of the success of Delhi Metro, former president Pranab Mukherjee said on the occasion of 24th anniversary of DMRC today.
Delhi Metro is a matter of pride for people of the city, he stated.
Managing Director of DMRC Mangu Singh said the works on Phase III of the network were complete and its trials were expected to begin from June.
"In the balance sections of Phase III, physical works are more or less complete except at Trilokpuri. By the end of June, all sections will be ready for trials," he said.
He termed the previous year as "satisfying and eventful" for the DMRC as new lines totalling 40 km were thrown open to the public.
"The Delhi Metro had opened about 40 kilometres of new lines across three different corridors. Another 35 kilometres of new sections are now ready for operations after clearance by the Commissioner of Delhi Metro Rail Safety," he said.
"In the next one year, we will add another 100 km. This is indeed remarkable and makes DMRC one of the largest Metro networks in the world," said Delhi chief secretary, Anshu Prakash.
