Delhi family robbed at gunpoint; shocking footage caught on CCTV
NEW DELHI: A family in north Delhi's Model Town lived out their worst nightmare when they were robbed at gunpoint just as they returned home, with their two young children in their car. Chilling CCTV footage from the car parking area of their home shows the family being robbed of their valuables by three masked men.
What unfolded thereafter was captured by the CCTV camera in the family's car parking area. Varun Bahl can be seen stepping out of his Mercedes and running to close the gate when the three men barge inside, pointing a gun at him.
"I told them not to harm me and my family and take whatever I have. They took my purse, a gold bracelet and one of them moved to my wife and asked if she was wearing a chain. They took her phone and asked me to sit in the driver's seat so that they could comfortably flee," a visibly shaken Varun said.
It seems that the robbers were waiting for the family to return and struck when they were parking their Mercedes car inside their house. However, as the robbers fled leaving the family in shock, they were confronted by a police party which engaged them in an encounter a minute later.
"These three robbers were confronted at around 3:35 am by our police team who challenged and signalled them to stop.
They, however, opened fire on the police party to which they retaliated. They somehow managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness," said Vijayanta Arya, DCP North West.
Delhi Police has formed teams to arrest the accused.
