Cong wants India of Tandoor case, Emergency, Bofors, Chopper scams: Modi

New Delhi: Tearing into the Congress for its attack of the NDA government's policies and its vision of a 'New India', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that in reality the Congress wants India of the 'tandoor case', 'the Emergency' and 'Bofors and chopper scams'.

Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address, the PM said a 'Congress-Mukt Bharat' was not the BJP Government's thought but that put forward by Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

'We want Mahatma Gandhi's India. Even the Congress wants 'Gandhi's India.' However, the 'India' that the Congress wants is that of the tandoor case, the Emergency, Bofors and chopper scams,' the PM said.

''When a big tree falls'......remember these lines...is this the India Congress wants,' the PM asked.

On the Congress criticising the BJP for its call for a 'Congress-Mukt Bharat', the PM said, 'Congress

Mukt Bharat is not our thought, it was the thought of Mahatma Gandhi.'

Responding to the Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad calling this government as a 'name changer', the PM said, 'You call us name changers....we are aim changers - we work hard and have ushered in a paradigm shift in the working of the Government. Innovative projects are being thought about and completed in a time bound manner.'

On the Congress criticism of the scheme of 'Ayushman Bharat' announced in the Budget, Mr Modi charged the Congress with being cut off from ground realities.

'You were speaking about Ayushman Bharat and gave the example of the US and Britain, there is a vast difference between them and our society, but of course being in power for more than 50 years you get cut off from the ground.

I think every nation has its own context, challenges and nature of working. What I am sure we agree on is that there is a lot of work to be done in our health sector,' the PM said.

Claiming that the government is looking to provide relief to 40 per cent of the citizens through this scheme, the PM said, 'there is much to be done in terms of health in our country, but this does not mean Ghulam Nabi Azad did nothing. But there is much more to be done. There may be issues with 'Ayushman Bharat Yojna' and Congress's inputs are welcome. Let us work together in providing affordable healthcare.'
