Bengal will play key role in forming govt at Delhi: CM

Kurseong: "Bengal will play an important role in the formation of government in Delhi. Together (the Hills and the plains), we will make it happen," stated Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo while addressing a massive rally in Kurseong on Friday.

Banerjee also said: "We are proud of our Armed forces but I will never seek votes highlighting the achievements of soldiers, like (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi."

Banerjee arrived in Darjeeling on Wednesday and while on her way back to Siliguri on Friday, she addressed a TMC-GJM rally at Monteviot Ground, Kurseong.

"Who forms the government is not important but it has to be an inclusive one and a pro-people's government. It should not be a government indulging in divisive politics. Bengal will play an important role in the formation of government in Delhi. For this, we need to win all 42 seats. I want the Darjeeling Hills to be a part of Delhi. After that, let me see who has the guts to deprive you," stated Banerjee.

The TMC chief stated that all this has to be achieved through unity. "This time, it is your candidate and our symbol. In the Assembly elections, the TMC will not field candidates in the Hills but will support the GJM. I want the Hill party to do well and we will maintain a cordial political relation," she added.

The Chief Minister stated that the Hills have a lot of potential but the unrests at regular intervals have emerged as major deterrents. "Our youths in the Hills are very talented. They can make a mark anywhere in the world. However, they need to be nurtured. Some people are more interested in creating unrest and all the good work comes to a standstill," stated Banerjee.

"There is great scope for the IT Industry in the Hills. Many are interested to invest in the Hills in this sector but are afraid of the periodical political turmoil," she maintained.

Banerjee also stated that peace and political stability are important for the region for economic empowerment. "With peace, tourists will throng to the Hills. All the hotels and homestays will have good business. We have to develop more tourist spots in Kurseong. We will also construct a Circuit House here," stated Banerjee.

She assured that after elections she will hold a discussion with the Hill leaders and work out a way to address the identity issue for the Gorkhas. "I do what I commit. I don't make false commitments," stated Banerjee.

She assured that whatever is required for the development of the region, she would do. "Just don't get carried away by provocation. Together, let us get back the lost glory of Darjeeling," stated Banerjee.
