Bengal will be the deciding factor in change of govt in Centre: Abhishek

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday said that the people of Bengal will play a pivotal role and be the deciding factor behind the change of guard at Centre and the formation of a new “democratic” government.
“I have been on the roads for the past 3 months. I can understand the body language of the people. A change in the government at the Centre is just a matter of time. A change will come on June 4 when election results will be out. A democratic government at the Centre will be formed,” Banerjee said. He was addressing two back-to-back election rallies. He attended the first rally in Howrah’s Uluberia in support of his party candidate Sajda Ahmed and later he attended a road show in Burdwan-Durgapur in support of the party candidate Kirti Azad.
Banerjee said the BJP government at the Centre had deprived Bengal “wilfully” for the last ten years. Speaking at a public rally at Uluberia he said that the people of Bengal should give a suitable reply to the BJP by pressing the appropriate button during the Lok Sabha elections. He also said that BJP has threatened to stop the Lakshmir Bhandar if it returns to power. He also played an audio where a BJP woman leader said that the project would be stopped within three months.
“The BJP government at the Centre has deprived the people of West Bengal for the last ten years. The Centre has stopped paying dues which the state owes under schemes like 100 days work and Awas Yojana. The Bengal government has provided benefits under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme to 14,32,318 women in Howrah for which the state government spends Rs 1570 crore every year. Around 14,32,318 girls from Howrah avail Kanyashree scheme for which the Mamata Banerjee government spends Rs 650 crore,” Banerjee stated.
He also played a video in which BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari hurled “abusive” language on women when they raised the Sandeshkhali incident.
“BJP mandal president in Sandeshlhali in a video claimed that no rape incident had taken place in Sandeshkhali. The entire incident was cooked up by the BJP.
A BJP leader of Sandeshkhali had said that the saffron party had paid money to the women of Sandeshkhali to make false allegations of sexual harassment. The saffron party has defamed not only West Bengal but also demeaned the prestige of women. We will never sell our spine or bow down to the outsiders from Delhi,” he said.
