Ajay Seth given additional charge of Revenue Secy
New Delhi: Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth was assigned additional responsibilities as the Secretary of the Revenue Department with immediate effect, according to a government order issued on Tuesday.
The dual charge was given to Seth following the government’s decision on Monday to appoint the current Revenue Secretary, Sanjay Malhotra, as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Malhotra is set to assume his new role at the RBI for a three-year term starting December 11.
The government order stated: “The Competent Authority has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Revenue, to Ajay Seth, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, with immediate effect, until the appointment of a regular incumbent or further orders, whichever comes first.”
A 1987-batch IAS officer from the Karnataka cadre, Seth has been serving as the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs since April 2021.
Seth, who holds a B Tech in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA, brings over 30 years of experience in public finance and social sector administration. His expertise spans areas such as budgeting, tax policy, foreign investments, bilateral and multilateral financial cooperation, development financing, and public-private partnerships.
