After 7 cr new entrants, BJP membership to touch 18 cr soon
New Delhi: With its recent membership drive, the total number of BJP members has reached near 18 crore, its highest ever, after the party has added seven crore new entrants, BJP's working president J P Nadda said on Thursday.
Nadda mentioned: "5,81,34,242 new members have joined BJP through online so far, which is nearly 50 per cent. 62,35,967 membership requests have been received through offline forms. However, the process of connecting missed calls with the main server is still on." The new working president also called the outcome "overwhelming". BJP further recruited 1,85,900 Vistaraks for seven days throughout the country to supervise the drive. "The party got the most significant response to the membership drive in West Bengal. Though we targeted 20 lakh new members in the state, surprisingly it ended with 80 lakh new members," he added.
The North-East states and Jammu and Kashmir also responded with more than 50 per cent new members to the party.
Meanwhile, from October 10 this year, the incumbent party will hold booth-level elections; in November later this year, the district-level elections will take place and finally, in December, the central organisational poll will be conducted where the BJP will get its new national president.
