33 test HIV positive in Unnao

Unnao: The number of AIDS patients in the district rose to 33 after more people were reported infected with the deadly disease, when a quack injected them with a single needle in Bangarmau area, here.
The incident was reported in Bangarmau area of the district, where the officials have identified one Rajendra Yadav behind this incident. An FIR has been registered against him.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Sushil Choudhury said here on Tuesday that the quack used to inject injections with one needle, leading to spread of this deadly disease.
The CMO said doctors checked 566 people in Bangarmau and its adjoining villages, where in the first round, 38 people were found HIV positive, while second examination reported 33 people as infected with the disease.
All the patients have been shifted to the KGMU in Lucknow. Most of the cases are from Premganj and Chakmirapur villages.
Dr Choudhury said the injection were given to the patients during the past three months since November.
"Now, the doctors are checking all the patients, who have been given injection by Rajendra Yadav," he stated.
The FIR against Rajendra was registered by Bangarmau community health centre In-Charge Pramod Dohre on January 31 and police was investigating the matter. The quack is absconding for the past one week.
A two-member committee has been set up to find out other persons in the area, who could have been infected with the needle used by the quack.
