Bhushan opposes name of KV Choudhry for CVC post, writes to PM

Expelled Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prashant Bhushan has raised objections after reports of former CBDT chief KV Choudhry being the front-runner for the post of Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) surfaced.

Bhushan took to Twitter and alleged that there is a consensus between both Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress to “destroy” CVC by “appointing a dubious and pliable person as its chief”.

He also tweeted the letter written by him to the Prime Minister’s Office on May 20 “regarding the dubious front runner for CVC chief”.

Mentioning the name of <g data-gr-id="25">Choudhray</g> in the letter, Bhushan claims that his name figures “four times” in the list of people who visited the official residence of former CBI director Ranjit Sinha.

The letter states that the Supreme Court had on May 14 taken note of the visits and stated that the “impact of those meetings on cases being dealt by the CBI needs to be investigated”.

He wrote that Choudhry’s role in the ‘stock guru’ scam was also investigated by the CBI during the tenure of Ranjit Sinha as the apex investigating agency’s director.

Bhushan alleges that Choudhry was the DGIT when Radia tapes were intercepted but he “did not take any action on <g data-gr-id="21">evidence</g> available with him”.

The former AAP member also claimed in the letter that Choudhry was <g data-gr-id="27">in-charge</g> of investigating
HSBC account holders for almost three years, but there was almost no progress in the income tax investigation case until Supreme Court appointed an SIT.
