Bhushan alleges graft in Dental Council of India

Senior AAP leader and prominent lawyer Prashant Bhushan wrote a letter to union health minister JP Nadda on Friday, demanding a probe into the affairs of the Dental Council of India (DCI). Along with the letter, Bhushan claimed to have provided all relevant documents as evidence to show how DCI, particularly during last three years, has been hand in glove with private institutions to degrade and compromise the quality of dental education and research for monetary gains.

Bhushan in his letter mentioned that CBI has been filing cases against the DCI officials for the last four years.

Bhushan further said, ‘There has been massive corruption in the DCI that has come to fore in the last two years, particularly in year 2012. The majority of cases include the sudden explosion in the number of seats being offered for postgraduate courses in dental colleges such as Master of Dental Surgery (MDS).

The chain of the malpractice seems to begin from patronage given by large political parties to certain members of DCI, who receive pecuniary benefits from private colleges in return of being granted permission to increase the numbers of MDS seats in private dental colleges.’

Bhushan has demanded action against DCI president Dr. Dibyendu Mazumdar and other officials who were involved it the corruption.
