Within a month of busting an extortion racket being run from the Tihar Jail, the Delhi Police have now busted an extortion racket being run from Bhondsi jail, Gurgaon.
The two persons, Vineet Kumar (24) and Pawan Gulia (19), arrested in this regard, are alleged members of an extortion racket headed by Vikas Lagarpiria and Dhirpal Kana. Vineet and Pawan were allegedly executing extortions on behalf of Kana and Lagarpuria, said RA Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), on Saturday.
He further said that while Kala is presently lodged at Haryana’s Bhondsi jail for an alleged murder, Lagarpuria, arrested in the same case, is out on bail. Both of them allegedly gave orders to Vineet and Pawan. Vineet allegedly has several hardcore criminals among his associates. So, having him in the gang gave an edge to Lagarpuria and Kana over other extortion gangs.
According to the police, on April 13, a firing incident was reported from near Aggarwal Sweets in South-west Delhi’s Najafgarh area. During probe, the owner of the enterprise told the police that he was receiving extortion calls. Later, it emerged that the SIM card used in making the extortion calls was issued upon a fake identity card and was being operated from Bhondsi jail.
Meanwhile, Vikas and Pawan were also identified after monitoring of the CCTV footage obtained from premises near the spot, where the firing had taken place. They were arrested on April 17, said Sanjeev.
