Bhel commissions 250-mw unit at Sikka thermal power plant

State-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) on Friday said it has commissioned a 250 MW coal-based thermal power unit at Sikka in Gujarat. It has been commissioned at Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd's (GSECL) Sikka Thermal Power Station on Engineering, procurement and Construction basis.
"Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has achieved one more milestone by successfully commissioning a 250 <g data-gr-id="28">mw</g> coal-based thermal power plant in Gujarat," the company said in a statement. This is the second unit of 250 <g data-gr-id="29">mw</g> to be commissioned by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd at Sikka TPS, located near Jamnagar, one of the major industrial towns in the state.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd had commissioned the first 250 <g data-gr-id="23">mw</g> unit in March. In addition, two units of 120 MW each, supplied and executed earlier by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, are already in operation.
The sets of this rating class, supplied by Bharat Heavy Electricals <g data-gr-id="37">Ltd ,</g> are considered as workhorses and form the backbone of the Indian power sector.
These sets have been performing much above the national average as well as international benchmarks. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has so far contracted 251 sets of this rating class. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has had a long association with Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd and has contributed around 86 per cent of the total installed generating capacity of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd.
For Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd is executing another EPC order for setting up an 800 <g data-gr-id="30">mw</g> supercritical coal-based project at Wanakbori. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has delivered higher rated units of 600 MW, 660 MW, 700 MW and 800 MW thermal sets with a high degree of indigenisation.
In the current financial year (2015-16), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has already commissioned power plants with a cumulative capacity of 2,730 <g data-gr-id="26">mw</g>. The power equipment maker said it has practically 2 out of 3 houses being lit by power generated by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd sets. It has installed base of over 150,000 <g data-gr-id="27">mw</g> of power plant equipment.
