‘Bhagidari Atta’ price increased

The price of Delhi government’s ‘Bhagidari Atta’ scheme which was re-launched on 11 September this year has been increased. Citing inflation and minimum price for farmers which has been increased by central government recently, Delhi government decided to increase the price by Rs 1.5 per kg. On Tuesday, Delhi government announced that, the price of a 10 kg Bhagidari Atta would costs Rs 160 from its earlier price of Rs 144.50. After selling of over 42.5 lakh kg of flour from more than 400 outlets in the first two weeks of the inception of the scheme, the flour went missing in the outlets due to scarcity of supply of wheat flour from central government. The scheme was introduced in July 2009 but had to be discontinued in October 2011 when the central government stopped the supply of wheat flour. However, the centre agreed to resume the supply after Dikshit made a request to union minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies KV Thomas in May this year. The price of a 10 kg pack of Bhagidari Atta is Rs 70 cheaper than a pack of branded Atta available in the market. Atta is being sold through more than 400 outlets like Kendriya Bhandar, National Agricultural Cooperative and other spots determined by Delhi legislators.
