Youth found hanging in Madarihat PS toilet

Alipurduar: A youth was found hanging in the toilet of the child unit at Madarihat Police Station (PS) in Alipurduar. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Rahul Roy, a resident of Cheulibari village, in the jurisdiction of Bhorer Alo Police Station, Jalpaiguri. Police sources state that Rahul Roy was found hanging by a muffler tied around his neck.

Incidentally, police had been investigating the disappearance of one Aslam Khan, a philosophy student from Presidency University, who was missing since Saturday. Following the student’s disappearance, his family had filed a missing person’s report with the Madarihat police. In the course of their investigation, police brought four youths from Jalpaiguri to the Madarihat Police Station on Tuesday for questioning. Among them was Rahul Roy. The four youths, having no means of returning home that night, requested to stay at the station.

The police provided them with dinner and allowed them to rest in the child unit. However, when a civic volunteer on duty visited the unit the following morning, it was discovered that while three youths were present, Rahul Roy was missing. His body was later found hanging in the toilet of the unit.

Manabendra Das, Additional Police Superintendent of Jaigaon, confirmed the discovery and stated: “An inquest and inquiry have been conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate. The body has been sent to Cooch Behar MJN Medical College for postmortem. We have requested the Medical Superintendent to form a medical board for the autopsy, which will be conducted with videography. The investigation is ongoing.”
