Woman dies in fire incident at home
Kolkata: An elderly woman was charred to death after a fire broke out at a house in Garfa late on Sunday night.
The deceased, identified as Baby Mondal (65), was sleeping alone inside a room on the first floor of a three storied house and failed to escape after the
fire broke out.
Sources said around 1:10 am on Sunday night, a fire broke out at a house located at 7/5, Kalitala Main Road in Garfa. At the time of the incident, the elderly woman was sleeping inside a room on the first floor while her daughter-in-law and her two children were sleeping inside a room on the second floor. After the fire broke out, Mondal’s daughter in law somehow managed to escape with her children. The neighbours, on hearing her scream, came out and tried to rescue the trapped woman but failed. Meanwhile, the fire brigade and police were informed. Three fire tenders were pressed into action. After almost one-and-a-half hours, the blaze was controlled and firefighters rushed inside to rescue Mondal. However, they found the elderly woman lying unconscious on the bed with severe burn injuries. She was taken to M R Bangur Hospital where she was declared brought dead. The fire was doused completely around 3:40 am.
