Water supply in South Kolkata to be disrupted on Jan 18
Kolkata: Water supply in major parts of South Kolkata will be disrupted in the second half of Saturday (January 18) with the Garden Reach Water Treatment Plant undergoing necessary maintenance and repairs.
According to KMC’s Water Supply department, water supply will be stopped after 10 am on January 18 and will again start at 6 am on January 19. The residents of Tollygunge-Jadavpur belt comprising areas like Santoshpur (Jadavpur), Garfa, Golf Green, Kasba, Kalighat, Bansdroni, Ranikuthi, Parnasree, Chetla, Behala, Daspara etc are among the impacted localities. Maheshtala and Budge Budge areas under South 24-Parganas will also come under this purview. According to KMC officials, the repairs will take place in the winter because water consumption is typically lower during this time of year.
Firhad Hakim, Mayor of Kolkata, said that the maintenance work is essential to upgrade the Garden Reach Water Works and related booster pumping stations. The long-term, seamless functioning of the water supply system depends on such maintenance work.
