Uluberia: Three of a family die in fire

Kolkata: A couple and their one-year-old daughter died in a fire at their home in Uluberia in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to sources, around 3 am on Sunday, fire broke out at the house of Yasin Mallick (32) in Ward 25 of Uluberia Municipality. At that moment, Yasin and his wife Mahima Begum along with their daughter Humayra Khatun (1) were sleeping.

Before anyone could react, the room was gutted. Yasin and others tried to reach the door but failed. Hearing them screaming when local residents and Yasin’s mother woke up, they had already died. Yasin’s mother Nurjahan also suffered burn injuries.

One fire tender was pressed into action. After the fire was doused, charred bodies of Yasin, Mahima and Humayra were recovered and sent for autopsy. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
